How do I set up Google Analytics?

Google Analytics gives you the tools you need to analyse data for your business. It includes a block of JavaScript code on pages to track users and their journey through your website.

Setting Up An Account

First of all, you will need to set up an account, in order to do this go to Google Analytics.

Click on ‘Start for free’ and start filling out the information on they ask for. Once you have set up your account you should be able to see the Google Analytics homepage which looks like the below.

Once you are here you will need to link your website. To do that, click on the admin button at the bottom.

If you have a plugin to help you like your website to google analytics then you will need to go into property settings,  to get the tracking ID.

The tracking ID will be some numbers that usually look something like this UA-160778792-1

If you are setting up the Google Analytics without a plugin, then you will need to add the tracking Google Site Tag to the <HEAD> of every webpage. You can find the tracking code under the tracing info section.

Other Notes

If you are setting up an eCommerce website then it is important to enable E-commerce on Google Analytics. You can do that by clicking on ‘E-commerce Settings’ in google analytics.
